Anarchy won't be tolerated over Aug 21 grenade attack verdict: Asaduzzaman

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Monday the law enforcement agencies have been asked to check anarchy ahead of the verdict in the August 21, 2004 grenade attack to be delivered on October 10, reports BSS.

"Anarchy in any form wouldn't be allowed centering the verdict in the case regarding grenade attacks on an Awami League rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on August 21 in 2004," he told the news agency.

Replying to a query about any apprehension of sabotage ahead of the verdict, he said, "There is no apprehension. Police and intelligence agencies are collecting intelligence information round the clock and taking plan on the basis of current situation."

"Verdict will be delivered against some identified criminals on October 10. They likewise 1975 carried out the heinous grenade attack on a rally of Awami League, who led the Liberation War of 1971, to destroy the party. I firmly believe that none will be in roads to save the criminals," he continued.

"The nation will be freed from another stigma with delivering of the verdict," he added. Asked about preparation of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) ahead of the verdict, its Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia said, "None would be allowed to create anarchy ahead of the August 21 grenade attack case verdict."

"Foolproof security will be taken at key point installations, court areas, government offices and elsewhere in the capital to avert any untoward incidents," he also said.

Replying to any intelligence report of sabotage centering the verdict, he said, "No intelligence information has so far been received regarding the matter. But, the security plan has been taken with all the possible things in the mind." When contacted, Director (media and legal wing) of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan told BSS, "We have given necessary instructions to all the battalions of the force to take preparation to check any anarchy ahead of the verdict."
