Barguna MP faces extortion charge

BARGUNA, Aug 27 (UNB): A case has been filed against MP Showkat Hasanur Rahman (Rimon) with a court for allegedly extorting money and gold ornaments from a local Awami League leader.

Md Idris Chowdhury, president of district Tanti League and general secretary of Rayhanpur union AL, filed the case with the Speedy Trial Court on Sunday.

Bashir Miah, son of Selim Fakir of the union, has also been made accused in the case for abetting him in the 'crime'.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, the court ordered the officer-in-charge of Patharghata thana to investigate it and submit a report in this regard.

According to the case statement, Hasanur Rahman demanded Tk 1.0 million from Idris.
