Six leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League were injured in a clash on the Dhaka University campus over their upcoming national council, reports bdnews24.com.

The injured BCL members alleged they were attacked on Monday in the presence of the president of the organisation, Saifur Rahman Sohag.

The injured are BCL Deputy Drama and Debate Affairs Secretary Imrul Hasan Nishu, Assistant Secretary Imran Joarder, former member Mahbub Hossain Khan, Surya Sen Hall unit Education Affairs Secretary Meshkat Hasan, Sir Salimiullah Muslim Hall unit Vice-President SM Kamal Uddin and former member of AF Rahman Hall unit Sagar Rahman.

Three of the six were injured in a similar clash on March 9 over the council scheduled for May 11 and 12.

Witnesses said 15 to 20 leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League's student affiliate, led by Vice President Arefin Siddique Sujan, stopped Sohag and asked him about the quota reform protests and preparations for the council when the BCL president was leaving Madhu's Canteen.

When Nishu said the organisation should take action against those who were still in the movement for reforms to the quota system in government jobs, Sohag and the others with the BCL president became angry, the witnesses said.

Sujan said Arifur Rahman Limon, another vice president, came forward and ordered the others to attack the 'opponents'.

He also said hundreds of BCL workers led by Joint general secretary Mohammad Nizamul Haque beat them up.
