Campaign materials such as posters, banners and placards are now a common sight on the Dhaka University campus indicating that electioneering for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections, billed for March 11, has gained a full momentum. A beholder is seen to take a snap of the board displaying the BCL panel for the DUCSU polls — FE Photo Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Wednesday announced its election manifesto for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) polls pledging to give a framework to make Dhaka University (DU) a fully residential university and abolish evening courses, reports BSS.
Ruling Awami League's student wing BCL under the banner of "Sammilita Sikkharthi Sangsad" placed the manifesto at a panel-introducing programme (projection meeting) at Aparajeya Bangla on the campus.
As per the section 5(Ga) of DUCSU electoral code of conduct-2019, an aspirant or any panel can hold three projection meetings at the university and one meeting in every residential hall.
DUCSU Vice-President (VP) candidate Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon, General Secretary (GS) candidate Golam Rabbani, Assistant General Secretary (AGS) candidate from BCL Saddam Hussain (AGS) and other candidates from BCL panel were present at the function.
The pledges of BCL's election manifesto are- giving framework to turn DU a fully residential university, bringing university's all activities under automation system, conducting academic activities through E-mail, abolishing evening courses and the affiliation of seven colleges under DU, stopping enhanced hall fees and penalties, controlling plying of public vehicles on university campus and fixing rickshaw fare, introducing mobile app based motorbike service on the campus, increasing timeframe of getting university buses and extending routes, providing quality food at the hall canteens, making campus free from drugs and terrorism, increasing allocation in research, introducing teacher evaluation, planning to make students self-reliant, providing allocation from DUCSU in study tours, opening cafeterias in several buildings, introducing health insurance for all students, chalking out activities to develop teacher-student relationship and setting up cultural centers for indigenous communities.
While addressing the programme, BCL central President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon said, "Only Chhatra League can realise students' demands. If we can win the DUCSU polls, we will dedicate ourselves to the well being of the students."
Meanwhile, banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir on Wednesday night pasted posters on the walls of Madhu's Canteen on the campus urging general students to boycott DUCSU polls. The posters were later removed by the activists of students' organisations.
