BCL withdraws CU blockade against ex-proctor's detention

CHITTAGONG, Dec 19 (UNB): A section of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) withdrew its blockade on Chittagong University on Tuesday afternoon, 11 hours after its enforcement.

Alamgir Tipu, former president of CU unit BCL, announced the withdrawal after a meeting with CU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury around 5:00 pm.

Earlier on Monday, the BCL faction called the blockade after a court sent former assistant proctor of Chittagong University Anwar Hossain to jail in a case filed over the murder of BCL leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury.

On November 20, 2016, the body of Diaz, central assistant secretary of the BCL, was found hanging from the ceiling of his room near the CU.
