BCL’s allies want DU clash report published

January 28, 2018 00:00:00

Nine organisations, allied with the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), have called on the Dhaka University (DU) administration to release a probe report on the campus clashes within 24 hours, reports bdnews24.com.

The incident involved a BCL attack on leftish student protesters on February 23.

The written statement from the BCL allies was read by JSD-backed Chhatra League President Shamsul Islam Sumon on the campus on Saturday.

He called for the release of the report within 24 hours, discussions with student organisations on the report and punishment to the perpetrators.

The group also called for swift solutions to issues tied to the students from Dhaka University's seven affiliate colleges.

Students from Dhaka University protested, demanding the administration end the affiliation with the seven colleges.

On January 15, BCL men attacked protesters who besieged the vice chancellor's office. The clashes led to vandalism of some offices.

On February 23, leftist students obstructed Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman and were again attacked by the BCL.

The BCL-allied groups rejected the notion that the Awami League's student wing had been involved in the attacks, stating the perpetrators were members of the 'general student body'.
