BD seeks ASEAN membership

Bangladesh has sought membership of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen disclosed it on Wednesday after his meeting with the visiting Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

Thailand is the current chair of the ASEAN.

"I have told the Thai foreign minister that we want to be a member of the Asean. He assured us that he would discuss the issue in their forum" the minister said while briefing the reporters about the meeting held in the state guesthouse Padma.

The minister said that Asean wants to play a lead role in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
