CHATTOGRAM, May 11: Acting General Secretary of ruling Awami League (AL) Mahabubul Alam Hanif on Saturday termed the BNP-Jamaat clique to be the key obstacle to the country's development.
"The BNP-Jamaat clique is the key obstacle to the country's development and they are such a force that will hit the country's people once they get the chance to survive. So this obstacle to the country's development will have to be removed through people's united efforts," Hanif said.
Addressing the extended meeting of the seven organisational district units of greater Chattogram, held at International Convention Centre in the port city, Mr Alam also said, "Tarique Rahman is a killer as well as a corrupt person. He is hatching conspiracy against Bangladesh from London. The government will bring him back home to face trial in the country."
"BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that Padma Bridge and Karnaphuli tunnel will not come to any benefit of the country's people. He made the comment only from an ulterior motive to prove the country as a failed state. BNP's mentality has always been an anti-development one. The party which could not do any development during its tenure is now making a desperate move to create obstacle to all the good works being done by the present government."
Chaired by Mahabubul Alam Hanif, the extended meeting was moderated by the party's central organising secretary, Enamul Haque Shamim.
Presidium Member of AL Abdul Matin Khasru was present as the chief guest.
Among others, Information Minister and AL publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Deputy Minister for Education and AL organising secretary Barrister Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, Whip of Parliament Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Acting president and general secretary of Chattogram city AL Mahatab Uddin Chowdhury and A J M Nasir Uddin, president and general secretary of Chattogram South dist AL Moslem Uddin Ahmed and Mofizur Rahman, acting president and general secretary of Chattogram north dist AL ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury and M A Salam and Najrul Islam MP, MA Latif MP, Mahfuzur Rahman MP, Saimum Sarwar Komol MP, Wasika Ayesha Khanom MP, Khadijatul Anwar Sony MP and Barrister Biplob Barua were also present at the meeting.
