BNP may change nature of movement, hints Nazrul

BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan hinted on Sunday that their party may change the nature of their current movement in the days to come, reports UNB.

"We've long been carrying out a democratic and peaceful movement. The nature of our movement can be changed in the interest of people," he said.

The BNP leader came up with the comment while speaking at a discussion arranged by 'Active Citizen of Bangladesh' at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) demanding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's release from jail.

Mentioning that BNP repeatedly restored people's democratic rights through struggle, he said people expect BNP to take steps for restoring democracy this time as well.

Nazrul, a BNP standing committee member, alleged the government is making various efforts to keep BNP out of the next general election race as it knows it cannot win the polls if their party joints it.

He said the government has also kept their chairperson in jail 'unlawfully' to hold the next polls without BNP's participation.

"We would like to say that no national election will be held in the country excluding Khaleda Zia. People won't allow anyone to arrange such polls," the BNP leader warned.
