BNP office abuzz with nomination seekers, party activists on 2nd day

A large number of supporters, activists and nomination seekers crowded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) central office in the city's Naya Paltan to buy and submit nomination papers for second day on Tuesday.

On the day, some 1,213 nomination papers were sold till filing of this report at around 8:20 pm ahead of upcoming 11th national election scheduled to be held on December 30.

Nomination seekers, flanked by their supporters, came to the party's central office from all over the country.

They also chanted slogans and took out processions in support of their favourite candidates for different constituencies.

However, a massive traffic gridlock was also observed near the BNP party office, stretching from Kakrail intersection to entrance of Fakirapool, as no vehicle made its way to the adjacent roads due to political showdown throughout the day.

The party started selling nomination papers at around 10am on the second day and it will continue till November 16, extended by two days, following extension of election date by one week.

On the day, the party's vice chairmen Abdul Awal Minto bought nomination paper for Feni-3, Shamsuzzaman Dudu for Chuadanga-1, Selima Rahman for Barishal-3, departed BNP standing committee member Hannan Shah's son Riazul Hannan for Gazipur-4.

On the first day, BNP sold 1,325 nomination papers to aspirant national election candidates.

Each nomination seekers need to pay Tk 5,000 to buy the form while another Tk 25,000 to be paid as security money during submission of the nomination paper.

On Monday, BNP senior leaders collected nomination papers on behalf of the party's imprisoned chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for Feni-1, Bogura-6 and Bogura-7 constituencies.
