Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidates and a few from other political camps in Dhaka lodged formal complaints with the Election Commission (EC) about election irregularities on Sunday.
A three-member BNP delegation led by its joint-secretary general Moazzem Hossain Alal handed over the party's set of allegations to the representative of EC secretary at the commission secretariat in the city's Agargaon.
Talking to the reporters, Mr Alal said, "Our polling agents in at least 221 constituencies across the country were either driven out of polling centres or faced obstructions while entering."
The polling agents of 'Sheaf of Paddy' were barred at the gates of polling stations by ruling party men and law enforcement agencies, he alleged.
He said BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front (JOF) leaders and activists also couldn't set up election camps near polling centres to assist the voters with voter serial numbers.
The BNP leader said, "It is now proved that holding free, fair and credible elections under a political government is impossible."
The elections might be a participatory one but it wasn't fair by any means, he added.
When asked about whether BNP will stay in the elections or not till end, Mr Alal said, "We are still in the elections and the party will take decision what to do later."
He also alleged that ballot stuffing occurred in at least 150 constituencies a night before with the help of law enforcement agencies and election officials concerned.
Earlier in the day, BNP candidate for Dhaka-02 constituency, Irfan Ibne Aman filed complaint with the EC alleging that most of their polling agents were thrown out of respective polling centres.
He said, "There are 181 polling stations in my constituency where ruling party goons with the support from police kicked out all of our polling agents and put seal on ballots in favour of boat symbol."
However, when asked, he couldn't tell the number of polling agents BNP has appointed in Dhaka-02 constituency.
Meanwhile, Nationalist Democratic Front (NDM) chairman Bobby Hajjaj, contesting for Dhaka-6, urged the Election Commission (EC) to suspend voting in 12 centres of his constituency.
Mr Hajjaj submitted a letter to this effect to the EC at around 10:45am on the election day.
In the letter, he alleged that the activists of Grand Alliance (Mohajote) candidate Kazi Firoz Rashid forced polling agents of NDM from at least 12 voting centres.
'Sheaf of Paddy' candidate for Dhaka-10, Abdul Mannan, also made same allegation that all of his polling agents were forced to leave voting centres by 11:00am.
