Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Monday BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia supported the government of HM Ershad in 1982 and took various facilities from it, reports UNB.

"Begum Khaleda Zia took two homes and Tk 1.0 million from Ershad. If she had not accepted the government, why did she avail of the facilities?" he said.

Hasan Mahmud was speaking at a press briefing before attending a meeting of the "National Implementation Committee for Celebration of Bangabandhu's Birth Centenary".

He said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir got angered and is telling lies after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina disclosed the unpleasant truth in parliament.

"BNP leaders are doing politics with Khaleda's health. They're defaming Begum Khaleda and exposing their political bankruptcy through it," the minister said.

He also alleged Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia not only gave shelter to Bangabandhu's killers but also established them politically. "BNP helped them go abroad. Even they gave them jobs in embassies. Ziaur Rahman passed the indemnity bill in parliament halting the path of trial of the killers." The minister said Khaleda provided the killers with the scope to hoist national flag on their cars.

Earlier, Dr Hasan was addressing the meeting on ‘Media, Publicity and Documentation Sub-committee’ of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary celebration national implementation committee in the auditorium of the institution.
