BNP terms DUCSU polls results 'unusual'

March 13, 2019 00:00:00

A BNP senior leader termed on Tuesday unusual the results of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and feared an election engineering by the 'ruling quarter', reports UNB.

"The results are unusual with many inconsistencies. It can be said in a day or two whether election engineering was carried out by the Prime Minister's Office or its any blueprint was implemented at VC's residence," he said.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the comments while speaking at a press conference at party's Nayapaltan central office in the city.

The BNP leader said elections are held through panels from VP to members, and all the members of a panel face close contests. "But there're big differences of votes among the VP and GS candidates of quota reform panel and that of Chhatra League in the DUCSU polls. We can call it unusual."

The voting in the long overdue election to DUCSU and its hall unions was held on Monday.

Quota reform movement leader Nurul Haq Nur was elected vice-president (VP) of the DUCSU while BCL general secretary Golam Rabbani its general secretary. Eight out of nine secretary posts went to candidates from BCL panel.

Rizvi alleged an unprecedented incident took place on Monday in DUCSU'S history under the leadership of DU vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman and it destroyed the university's long image. "The government's puppet VC indulged in a farce in the name of DUCSU polls."

He alleged the DU VC arranged the election by holding the 'unsatisfied soul' of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in his body by allowing Chhatra League to carry out 'vote robbery'.

The BNP leader appreciated the university students and different student bodies for strongly raising their voice against the 'vote robbery' on the campus which has now turned into a den of Chhatra League 'cadres,' showing the nation a path of light.
