FE Report | April 03, 2019 00:00:00

Foreign Minister Dr A.K. Abdul Momen urged the civil society members to mobilise public opinion for smooth repatriation of Rohingya refugees.

"After taking over the charge of foreign ministry, I found the Rohingya issue a big headache for me" the minister said while addressing a reception accorded to him on Tuesday by the 1969 batch students of Dhaka University.

"Being a minister, I can not do or tell many thing which you can say, people can say. So you should build opinion for ensuring safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya refugees to their home" the minister said.

"This is public diplomacy which can help us in many ways and that is why I put special emphasis on it" he added.

Dr. momen also said he wants to focus on economic diplomacy so that the Ministry of foreign affairs can play a proactive role in implementing the development roadmaps.

"Our government led by prime minister Sheikh Hasina rolled out several roadmaps for development like Vision 2031, Vision 2030. I have asked all the missions of our country to mobilize investment and technology required to fulfill these roadmaps," he mentioned.

The minister also sought suggestions from the civil society members saying that collective wisdom is always better than individual thoughts.
