Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said on Wednesday the constitution of Bangladesh having a provision for reserved seats for women is a special gift from Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.
"There is a provision for reserved women seats in the Bangabandhu's 1972 constitution. Many countries in the world have long been demanding for reserved seats for women in the House, as they have no provisions in this regard," she said.
The speaker came up with the remarks while addressing the inaugural function of the second phase of a two-day orientation programme for the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) at the oath-taking conference hall in the JS Bhaban, said an official release here.
