September 13, 2018 00:00:00

A contempt of court plea has been filed with the High Court on Wednesday against Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani and Treasurer Dr Kamal Uddin for not taking steps to arrange election to the DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) in compliance with its earlier directives, reports UNB.

Advocate Manzill Murshid filed the petition on behalf of those who had filed a writ petition over the issue.

An HC bench of Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Dr KM Hafizul Alam might hear the petition on Sunday next.

Earlier on September 4, he served a contempt of court notice to the DU vice-chancellor and two others for their explanation as to why they did not take steps to hold the Ducsu election.

Earlier on January 17 last, the HC asked the DU authorities to take necessary steps within the next six months to hold Ducsu election.

A writ petition was filed by 25 students of DU in March 2012 seeking its order to compel the authorities concerned to arrange the Ducsu election.
