A Dhaka court has deferred its verdict in the double murder case in which Awami League (AL) MP Pinu Khan's son Bakhtiar Alam Rony is the lone accused, reports bdnews24.com.

Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Al Mamun was expected to deliver the verdict after hearing the arguments.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Md Shahabuddin Miah said the judge thinks a further hearing is needed before the delivery of the verdict. The next hearing has been set for June 4.

Police say auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali and rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim were shot in a random firing from a black Land Cruiser Prado on Apr 14, 2015. Hakim died a day later and Yakub on April 23 that year.

Rony, arrested on May 31 the same year in a case started by Hakim's mother Monwara Begum, allegedly opened fire from his licensed gun under the influence of drugs as he became irritated after being stuck in traffic congestion.

Detective Branch sub-inspector Dipak Kumar Das submitted charge-sheet against Rony to court on July 21, 2015 after investigating the case.

He brought charges of murder against Rony, who faces death or imprisonment for life and may also be fined, if found guilty.

Investigator Das named 37 as witnesses and provided 15 pieces of evidence, including report on ballistic tests of the bullets found in the bodies and cancellation of Rony's gun licence.
