Residents of the Journalists' Housing Society exchanged their views with the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) garbage disposal chief Commodore Abdur Razzak over the prevailing water logging situation and garbage disposal in the area and put forward their opinions at the society's office at Mirpur on Saturday.

The DNCC official, after taking into cognisance the suggestions given by the residents, said the DNCC is trying its best to remove the water logging problem in the area adding, it is excavating the 'Sangbadik Khal' and trying to keep the flow of the canal so that water can easily pass through it.

The DNCC will also clean up the nearby canals and drains in the area, he said.

He stressed the need for public awareness about the garbage disposal and keeping the waterways and drains garbage-free. Canals and drains are not meant for dumping garbage, rather these are the outlets for rain and waste waters, he added.

The DNCC will soon launch a civic awareness programme in cooperation with local people and elected representatives to make the city habitable and sought the cooperation of journalists to make the programme a success.

With the Society's president Nurul Huda in the chair, its vice president Md Rafiqul Islam, secretary Aminul Haque and senior journalist and former minister Syed Didar Bakth gave their suggestions over the mitigation of water logging in the area.
