Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday the ongoing drives against corruption, drugs and criminalisation will continue until the menaces are uprooted, report agencies.

"The Prime Minister (PM) told not to spare anyone even if they are affiliated with the ruling party," he said.

Whoever the criminals are, none will be spared, he said. He also expressed the government's determination to continue drives to uproot the unethical activities like corruption, drug trafficking, terrorism and crimes.

The AL leader came up with the remarks while talking to the reporters at the Secretariat.

Quader said the PM had ordered senior leaders, law enforcers and high officials not to compromise and spare any godfather, extortionist, corrupt, tender manipulator, or drug smugglers.

"She also spoke about breaking the cycle of corruption and not to compromise with anyone," said Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister,

"We have to destroy the circle of the miscreants and that's why the drive will continue as long it is needed," he said.

Many are being arrested at the district level for corruption during the ongoing drive. "It'll continue until criminalisation and corruption are uprooted," he said.

Criticising the activities of the BNP, the ruling party leader said if the BNP plays positive role in politics, they should congratulate the government on operating such drives by the law enforcement agencies.

"BNP had no courage to apprehend those who were involved in corruptions because of 'Hawa Bhaban, Khowab Bhaban' during their regime. BNP is showing sign of envy as the popularity of the government has risen due to the drives against corruption," he added.

Replying to a query on whether the government will investigate the allegation that GK Shamim gave bribes to get those big public work orders, Quader said, "You [newsmen] please help us to find out those who were involved in such deals."
