Speakers at a seminar urged on Wednesday all concerned, including the government, to ensure public security during the forthcoming national election, reports UNB.

They made the call while addressing the seminar on 'Upcoming Election and Public Security' organised by Jago Bangla Foundation (JBF) at the National Press Club in the city.

Mentioning that Bangladesh has made enormous progress in several fields, Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad said ensuring public security through maintaining a peaceful environment for the election should be the prime concern of the government.

He also urged all to act responsibly to that end.

The renowned economist called for instilling the Liberation War spirit in youths.

National University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid lauded the Awami League government, saying, "It's pleasant that every party is going to join the 11th parliamentary elections. All credit goes to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for building a truly democratic state."

He also denounced the atrocities unleashed by the opposition before the 2014 national election.

World University VC Abdul Mannan Chowdhury urged all classes of people to do their part to maintain public security and ensure safety -- be it election or any other occasion.

Former Dhaka University VC Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said everyone must ensure that there exists a stable election environment in the country while the responsibility mostly lies on the Election Commission.

He also hailed the Prime Minister for ensuring the participation of all parties in the election.
