First phase UZ elections peaceful, claims CEC

SYLHET, Mar 13 (UNB): The first phase of the upazila (UZ) elections was free, fair and peaceful, claimed Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.

"The first phase Upazila elections were held in a peaceful manner with the help of the local administration and the law enforcers," he said.

The CEC came up with the remarks while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with law enforcers at the Deputy Commissioner's office.

He said, "The Election Commission officials also played a vital role."

He said the law enforcers have been asked to prevent violence during the next phases.
