Forge greater alliance, Zafrullah tells BNP

Ganoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury on Saturday suggested BNP to form a greater alliance of the opposition parties with some specific promises to establish a pro-people government, reports UNB.

"We've many things to learn from Malaysian polls. There's a development in Bangladesh as Dr Kamal Hossain and AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury called upon people and civil society members to join a movement against the current government, and establish a pro-people administration," he said.

Speaking at a discussion, Zafrullah further said, "I would like to tell BNP that you'll have to come to the field together with all the opposition parties with some promises like not to take the law in hands after forming an inclusive government."

He also said BNP will have to announce that it will provide the victims of the current government's 'repressive acts' with financial compensation instead of taking revenge.

Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB) arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club demanding proper treatment of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her release from jail, and protesting the recent attack on Dr Samiul Alam Suhan near Doel Chattar in the capital.

He also voiced anger over the role of the Supreme Court in staying Khaleda's bail granted by the High Court in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
