A leader of BNP-led 20-party alliance said on Monday their only aim now is to re-establish democracy by freeing Begum Khaleda Zia, reports UNB.

President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Dr Colonel (retired) Oli Ahmed claimed the verdict of the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case is nothing but a 'mockery' as the government has already made the judiciary 'controversial'.

He was addressing a roundtable organised by Swadhinata Odhikar Andolon at the National Press Club in the city .

Oli Ahmed said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina used to say that she does not afraid of death but we think she is very much afraid of fair election and democracy."

Oli asked the BNP leaders to be more unified and re-think about their opponent and comprehend them sincerely, and also urged the leaders to clarify the expected duties from alliance parties in the time of polls if Khaleda remains behind the bar.

Speaking as a special guest, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Dr Emajuddin Ahmed said many in BNP are not fully satisfied with the peaceful manner of protest because they want more strong movement. Prof Emajuddin, however, reminded them of Khaleda Zia's instruction to remain non-violent.

He said, "I think BNP is now more unified, more integrated and efficient than any other time but the government thought sending Khaleda to jail they can manage to break her party."
