BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Sunday warned that the government will have to face a 'shameful' defeat in the face of a united movement by most opposition political parties, reports UNB.

"A ground for waging a greater united movement was created yesterday (Saturday) which makes the government worried. Big political leaders and noted personalities called for a united movement over almost the same demands. Our party also expressed solidarity with them," he said.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader further said, "A united movement for a credible election will surely be launched in the days to come, and the government won't only be forced to resign, but also will face a shameful defeat."

Jatiyatabadi Nobin Dal arranged the programme at the National Press Club demanding the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and all other political prisoners.

Referring to Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader's comment that national unity cannot be forged without Awami League, Nazrul said the unity is against the ruling party to free the nation from its misrule and misdeeds. "It's not possible to engage you with the movement as you're opponent of it."

He said their party considers Awami League as their political opponent, not enemy, and opposes its anti-people activities. "But the government is showing inhuman attitude towards our leader Khaleda Zia like an enemy."

The BNP leader alleged that government is putting Khaleda's life at stake by not allowing her to receive treatment in any specialised hospital.

He also said though Khaleda got bail in the case she was convicted, the government has kept her in jail in other cases with various tricks.

Nazrul, a BNP standing committee member, said the government is unwilling to free Khaleda from jail due to her 'immense popularity'.

He said the ruling party leaders and activists are getting panicked and morally week gradually due to their involvement in corruption, unfair acts and various offences.
