BNP alleged on Saturday that the government is doing 'foul politics' over the 'serious illness' of its chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail, reports UNB.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir renewed their party's demand for ensuring better treatment of Khaleda at United Hospital in the city.

"Khaleda Zia's health condition is deteriorating gradually in the jail. The entire nation and we're worried over her falling health condition," he said.

The BNP leader further said, "We would like to ask the government to take a step for releasing our leader ( Khaleda Zia) and allowing her to receive treatment at United Hospital by doctors of her choice".

Otherwise, Fakhrul warned, the government will be held responsible if Khaleda's health condition deteriorates further. "Take steps for her release and treatment instead of doing foul politics," he added.

The BNP leader also criticised the jail authorities for what he said not allowing them and Khaleda's relatives to meet her over the last 10 days.

Referring to Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader's comment over Khleda's illness that the death and life are in the hands of Allah, Fakhrul said it has exposed the government's plot against her.

He also accused the government of creating a smokescreen over Khaleda's illness to confuse people as part of their plan to keep the BNP chairperson away from politics and the next general election.
