SYLHET, July 09 (UNB): BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Monday alleged that the government is influencing the election process by intimidating the BNP leaders and activists in the district.

At a press conference at the house of BNP's Sylhet City Corporation mayor candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury, in the city, he came up with the allegation.

"Awami League's candidate is repeatedly violating the electoral code of conducts while administration is performing a silent role. Moreover, law enforcers and detectives are threatening the local BNP leaders", he alleged.

"By creating such atmosphere, they are spreading fear among the voters. The threat has come to such an extent that they are saying- you (BNP leaders) stay away from the area until July 30", he said.

Ariful Haque on Monday informed Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Election Commission of the matter, he said but expressed his doubt whether the complaint will work or not.

Ariful Haque Chowdhury, BNP Sylhet division organising secretary, Sakhawat Hasan Jibon, president of Sylhet metropolitan city unit, Nasim Hossain were also present during the press conference.
