Govt working to make armed forces more developed: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Wednesday the government continues its effort to make the armed forces more developed ensuring international standards, reports UNB.

"It's duty of the armed forces to protect independence and sovereignty of the country. So, we've continuous efforts to make the armed forces more developed and international standard one'" she said while addressing a programme of 44th founding anniversary of the President Guard Regiment at the PGR headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment.

The Prime Minister also greeted PGR members on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the force.

Sheikh Hasina praised the PGR members for showing competence in providing security. "The PGR members are showing enough competence. Their role in providing security is praiseworthy," she said.

On her arrival at the PGR headquarters, the Prime Minister was received by Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed and PGR Commander Brigadier General Md. Jahangir Alam.

PM's Security Affairs Advisor Maj Gen (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, President's Military Secretary Major General SM Shamim-Uz Zaman, PM's Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin and PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim, among others, were present.
