HC order on Khaleda's treatment at specialised hospital today

Cumilla court rejects bail in murder case

The High Court on Wednesday fixed today (Thursday) to pass an order on a writ petition seeking its directive on the authorities concerned for providing better treatment to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a specialised hospital, reports UNB.

An HC bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil fixed the date after completing the hearing on the petition. Former attorney general A J Mohammad Ali and Barriester Mahbub Uddin Khokon stood for Khaleda while attorney general MahbubeyAlam represented the state.

BNP chief's lawyer Barrister Nawshad Jamir filed the writ petition with the branch concerned of the court on September 9.

On February 8 last, a special court sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Since then she has been kept in Old Dhaka Central Jail.

Another report says: A court in Cumilla on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a murder case filed over the deaths of eight people in an arson attack in the district in 2015.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Biplob Debnath passed the order.

Public prosecutor Mostafizur Rahman represented the state while Advocate Kaiyum Haque stood for Khaleda.

Earlier on September 20, acting judge Golam Mahbub Khan of Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-5 fixed September 30 for hearing on a bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the murder case. When the prosecution filed a time petition the court fixed October 3 for hearing.
