Husband lands in jail over Mohila League leader murder

CHANDPUR, Jun 06 (UNB): A court sent on Tuesday the husband and his second wife to jail in connection with the murder of a central Mohila League leader.

Shahin Sultana Fancy (50), principal of Gollak Degree College and wife of Advocate Zahirul Islam, was found dead at her residence in Sholaghar area of Faridganj upazila on Monday night.

Later, police detained the victim's 58-year old husband who is a former president of Chandpur Bar Association, said Inspector Mohiuddin of the Detective Branch of police.

Following the husband's statement, police also arrested his second wife Julekha Begum from Nazirpara in the district town on the same night, he added.

Forkan Uddin, brother of the victim, filed a case accusing four people including Zahirul and Julekha with Chandpur Model thana on Tuesday.

The two other accused are: Zahirul's brother Khairul Islam Nayan (34) and his sister Janu Begum (48).

The couple had been in a longstanding dispute as Zahirul married Julekha Begum several years ago without getting the consent of his first wife Shahin, said police.
