JU BCL men beat up student over trifling matter

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Nov 7 (UNB): Some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit allegedly beat up a student of the university over a trifling matter.

The victim is Rupak Chandra Das, a third year student of Public Administration Department and also a residential student of Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore Hall.

Source said a group of BCL activists led by Amit Roy beat up Rupak Chandra Das on Sunday afternoon at Enam Medical College in Savar area alleging that he made a bad comment on his girlfriend's Facebook post.

Then, they forcibly brought the victim back to the campus by the university's ambulance and threatened him not to disclose the matter of beating him up.

However, on Tuesday, Rupak (Victim) submitted a written complaint to JU Proctor Sikder Md Zulkernine seeking justice.

He brought allegations against a total of eight BCL men including Amit Roy, Nahidul Haq, Swapno Zaman, Partho Pico, Ajay Arka Biswas, Bikash Roy and Rifat Chawdhuri Piyas.

They are all activists under the Mowlana Bhasani Hall unit of Chhatra League and loyal to general secretary of JU BCL unit Abu Sufian Chanchal.

However, main accused BCL activists Amit Roy denied the allegation against them claiming it baseless.

When contacted, JU BCL vice president and the leader of Mowlana Bhasani Hall Mahabubur Rahman Nill said, "I do not know about the mater. We will take action against the alleged BCL activists of my dormitory after interrogation".

JU Proctor Shikder Md Zulkernine said over the allegation that the university authorities will take stern action after investigation into the matter.
