The Election Working Group (EWG), a platform of polls observers, said on Wednesday the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election was held peacefully, though amid some stray incidents, reports BSS.

The EWG made the preliminary statement on KCC polls at a press conference at the National Press Club in the city.

EWG Director Dr Md Abdul Alim read out the statement while EWG member Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullha was also present at the press conference.

He said there were some irregularities in the polls, but it did not have any impact on the election.

Alim said the overall situation of the polls was peaceful.

The average voter turnout in polling stations was 64.8 per cent, he said, adding the EWG monitored 145 voting centers out of the total 289.

The EWG is a non-partisan network of 28 leading civil society organisations in Bangladesh that was formed in 2006 with the shared goal of enhancing the transparency and accountability of elections and other democratic processes in the country.
