Maya urges pro-liberation forces to stay united in polls

CHANDPUR, Apr 28 (BSS): Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury (Maya) Bir Bikram urged on Saturday all political parties to be imbued with the spirit of Liberation War to remain united to resist anti-Liberation forces-rajakars and war criminals- in the next general polls.

He came up with the call at a rally to showcase government's development activities at Durgapur union of Matlab Uttar upazila in the district here.

The minister said only Awami League government can make development and strengthen the practice of democracy in the country and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the harbinger of it.

Maya said Bangabandhu, the architect of independent Bangladesh, has dreamt of building a Sonar Bangla and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been materialising his dream.

About the development activities at Matlab, the minister said the government has reached electricity facilities at every house in the locality and developed roads communication and constructed bridges over canals, took measures to stop river erosion, established new buildings at every school and set up digital laboratories.

Showcasing development in social indexes in the upazila, Maya said child marriage has reduced, public awareness has been raised against terrorism and militancy and operations are underway to curb abuse of drugs.

Chandpur Zilla Parishad chairman Osman Gani Patwary, Matlab Uttar upazila AL vice-president Sirajul Islam, secretary MA Quddus, Awami League leader Sajedul Hossain Dipu Chowdhury, Matlab Uttar Upazila Parishad Chairman Manjur Ahmed Manju, vice-chairman Ariful Islam Sarker Iman, Chhengarchar municipality mayor Rafiqul Alam Joj, Matlab Mahila AL adviser Subarna Chowdhury Bina and Mahila AL president Parvin Sarker, among others, were present on the occasion.

Durgapur union chairman Dewan Abul Khayer chaired it. Earlier, the minister distributed seeds and fertilizers at free of cost among 1000 farmers.

On the occasion, he said during the tenure of BNP-Jamaat the farmers could not buy fertiliser at Taka 100 per kilogram but now the farmers are getting fertilizers free of cost during this AL government.

Because of agriculture friendly policy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government, Bangladesh has become self-reliant in food.
