RAJSHAHI, July 14 (BSS): Four out of total five mayoral candidates for the upcoming Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election scheduled to be held on July 30 promised to work for development of the city if they were elected.

They made this commitment taking part in a "Face-to-Face with People" programme in the city on Saturday.

Musaddique Hossain Bulbul (Paddy Sheaf), Habibur Rahman (Jackfruit), Shafiqul Islam (Hand fan) and Advocate Murad Murshed (Elephant) joined the programme and replied to a volley of questions raised by the voters.

Awami League nominee mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton (Boat) could not attend the programme due to his engagement in election campaign.

Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) organised the programme at Moonlight Garden Convention Centre to create awareness among voters and give them the opportunity to put across their aspirations to the mayoral candidates.

The voters reminded the candidates that it was their moral responsibility to go by the commitments they make to the electorate.

Sujan leaders called upon the voters to elect honest and competent candidates in the forthcoming RCC election to strengthen democracy and introduce sustainable socio-economic development of the country.

The participating voters expressed solidarity with the call and signed a declaration at the meeting for a peaceful, free and fair election.

On their part, the mayoral aspirants elaborated on their electoral commitments and plans to implement them, if voted to office.

Sujan central secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar moderated the programme with its city unit president Pear Baksha in the chair.

The voters in general, representatives from socio-cultural-professional fields, human rights bodies and election monitoring organisations, among others, took part in the face-to-face programme.
