Menon fears disasters if BNP back in power

Referring to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's conviction, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menonon Saturdaysaid there is nothing to wonder about this as the government is only fulfilling its election commitment of fighting corruption, reports UNB.

The minister came up with the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organised by Bangladesh Awami Bastohara League Central Committee at the Jatiya Press Club.

"It was included in our 23-point election pledge that we will fight against corruption, and we are fulfilling our promise" he said adding that no former or current leader will be spared if found involved with corruption.

He also said, if BNP comes back in power, Bangladesh will turn into Indonesia of 1975 where several lakh people were killed.

"Not sure if as horrific situation will occur or not as it happened in 1971, but a massacre will start in the country if BNP comes to rule," Menon apprehended and gave reference to the 2015 situation.

Mentioning about the initiatives taken by the government for the rehabilitation of the slum dwellers, he also urged the poor people to come forward and fight together for their better life.

"Poor people and slum dwellers have always played an important role in every movement of the country", he said adding that "we have to change our mindset to for the betterment of the country's poor people."

President of the Bangladesh Awami Bastohara Central Committee, Nuruddin Khan, general secretary Lion Rashed Hawlader were present, among others, in the seminar.
