More than 0.7m new voters in Chattogram district

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 08: More than 0.7 million new voters have been added to the voter list over the last five years in Chattogram district, with the total voters standing at 56, 39,363.

The statistics of the final voters' list, vote centres and polling booths was published by the Chattogram district Election Office ahead of the 11th national election expected to be held in December next.

District Election Officer Md Munir Hossain Khan released the list on Thursday in his office on the Jubilee Road in the city. The national election will be held on the basis of the voters list published by the EC.

Munir Hossain said the final voters list, voting centres and polling booths for 16 parliamentary constituencies under Chattogram district have been released. The number of voters increased over the last five years is 7, 16,886. And the EC has increased 58 new vote centres and 816 polling booths for them.

The number of voters in the district during the last 10th national election was 49, 22,477, of which 25, 14,575were male voters and 24, 07,902 were female ones.

Of the 16 constituencies the Chattogram Metropolitan City has four constituencies and the southern and northern parts of the district have 12 constituencies.

In respect of the existing six police stations in the city Double Mooring has the highest number of voters with 4, 08,050 while Mirsarai upazila, out of 15 upazilas of the district, has the highest number of voters with 3, 14,743.

Scores of intending candidates from different political parties have already started campaigning with posters and banners having photographs of their top leaders such as Sheikh Hasina of Awami League, HM Ershad of Jatiya Party and Khaleda Zia of the BNP.
