Mozammel for confiscating assets of Jamaat leaders

SATKHIRA, Jan 23 (BSS): Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq said on Wednesday Jamaat-e-Islami should not be banned only, but assets of its leaders should be confiscated too, reports BSS.

"Collaborators of Pakistan should go there. There is no room for you in Bangladesh," he said.

The minister made the comments while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with freedom fighters (FFs) at Shilpakala Academy in the district.

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Mostafa Kamal presided over the meeting while local lawmakers Dr AFM Ruhul Haque, Mir Mushtaque Ahmed Robi and SM Jaglul Hayder, Satkhira district Awami League president Monsur Ahmed and secretary Md Nazrul Islam, also district council chairman, Superintendent of Police Md Sajjadur Rahman and former commander of the district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad Mosharaf Hossain spoke, among others.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working for the welfare of the freedom fighters, Mozammel said.

"From now the FFs will be given Tk 10,000 in cash each for their burial," he added.

In case any freedom fighter dies in a far away location, he or she will get Tk 40,000 in cash, he said.

The minister said, "All FFs of the country will be brought under the housing project. In the meantime, 10 per cent of poor FFs are being given Tk 15 lakh each for constructing houses".

Turning to the upazila polls, he urged all to ensure the victory of Awami League in the upcoming upazila elections.
