No obligation to hold dialogue now: Quader

January 21, 2019 00:00:00

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Sunday there is no obligation to hold any dialogue on the December 30 national election, reports BSS.

"Talks take place on different issues in every democratic country as dialogue is part of the democratic process. But now there is no compulsion of holding dialogue centering the election," he told reporters after a view-exchange meeting with officials of Bridge Division and Bridge Authority at the Setu Bhaban auditorium here.

He said the United Nations did not call for holding dialogue centering the just concluded national election.

About BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's remarks over the AL's victory rally, Quader said BNP leaders took different ill approaches at home and abroad to make the election questionable but their moves went in vain.

He said the BNP secretary general's remarks about the election are nothing but the utterances of a failed person.

"If the election was not neutral, how could he win?" he questioned, adding that at first he (Fakhrul) should manage his house (party) as he is in trouble now inside his party.

Quader said the BNP secretary general is making aggressive comments on the government as his position in the party is not good.

"Why didn't he (Fakhrul) join the Oikya Front's meeting on the excuse of illness? It was his political sickness," he said.
