No one in society is above law, says Speaker

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said on Monday everyone must be respectful to the law as no one in the society is above the law, reports UNB.

"The role of judges is important in the law as they performed with honesty and firmly to establish the rule of law. Equality and impartiality in the society will be established through the law and in its absence there will be misuse of power," she said.

The Speaker made the remarks while addressing the award -giving ceremony of the Justice Sikandar Ali Memorial Scholarship -2018 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban at Dhaka University as the chief guest.

The three important parts of the state are Executive, Legislature and Judiciary and these are performing their duties for the sake of the people.

Dhaka University vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the programme while Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque also addressed the event.

The Law Minister also made a presentation titled 'Rule of Law' at the programme.

Jayanta Kumar Mridha and Iffat Sajia Meem received the cheques from the Speaker.
