Obaidul Quader

Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday the people will reject BNP in the next general elections like in Tuesday's Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls, report agencies.

"The KCC polls proved that the votes of Awami League have increased in Khulna region like in other parts of the country...The female and young voters made the big margin of votes between the two candidates of Awami League and BNP," he said.

The AL leader made the comments while speaking at a press conference on the KCC polls at the AL President Sheikh Hasina's political office at Dhanmondi in the city.

Quader said the popularity of BNP is decreasing day by day for their negative mentality and a big defeat is waiting for them in future.

The AL general secretary said BNP wants to make the KCC polls questionable through falsehood. But the election was held peacefully though they (BNP) spread false information, he added.

Quader said the people of the country are now much conscious and they know who is better.

He thanked the people of Khulna, law enforcement agencies and all concerned who were involved in the KCC polls for holding a transparent and peaceful election.

Meanwhile, the 14-party alliance spokesman and Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim said democracy has emerged victorious through the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election.

"This is a victory of democracy. The pro-liberation forces have won through holding Khulna City Corporation in peaceful, neutral and credible manner," he told journalists after placing a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the 32 Dhanmondi Road in the city.
