Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday there is no need to wage any movement for holding a free, fair and neutral national election, reports BSS.

"With utmost respect, I would like to tell the leaders of Jatiya Oikkya front that there is no need of movement for a free, fair and neutral election. An acceptable election will be held in the country and you can take preparations for the polls," he said.

The Al leader made the comments while speaking at a function in the city's Shyamoli area.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, laid the foundation-stone of the construction work of a 14- storey building for the officials of Roads and Highways Division at the function.

He said the government will take necessary steps for the common people's welfare if any destructive movement is launched.

"You can take preparations for the polls…We have no objection to any type of non-violent movement. But, if anyone tries to create violence in the name of movement, then the government will take actions," he added.

The ruling party general secretary said politicians who are doing positive politics, not accused in any cases and have no connection with violence and any other crime, will not be arrested.

About the BNP's threat of movement, Quader said the country's people don't trust them.
