President for specific steps to ensure security in courts

President M Abdul Hamid asked on Wednesday the government and other agencies concerned to take specific measures to ensure security in all courts, including the higher court, across the country, reports BSS.

The head of the state came up with the directive when a delegation of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) sought cooperation from the President during a meeting at Bangabhaban on Wednesday afternoon expressing their grave concern over the recent murder in a Cumilla court.

The SCBA delegation demanded of the President to formulate a policy for the appointment of the High Court's judges also, President's Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin said after the meeting.

President Hamid advised the lawyers to perform their professional duties properly irrespective of political affiliations and opinions.

"The Lawyers are inalienable part of the judiciary . . . They (lawyers) can play a vital role in ensuring justice for litigants," the press secretary quoted the President as saying.

He also advised the lawyers to be more helpful to the justice-seekers so that none is deprived of getting proper legal assistance for want of money.

Abdul Hamid, who is also a lawyer, urged the SCBA representatives to uphold the dignity of this profession.

The President was apprised of overall activities of the Supreme Court Bar Association by the delegation led by SCBA president AM Amin Uddin.
