Pro-BNP-Jamaat teachers sweep RUTA elections

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, April 24: The BNP and Jamaat-backed White Panel has swept the Rajshahi University Teachers' Association (RUTA) polls held on Monday.

A majority of the posts of the dean, syndicate, planning and development committee, finance committee and academic council have gone to the panel while its counterpart ruling Awami League and progressive teachers-supported Yellow Panel have got only a handful of posts.

The voting started at RU Teachers' Club at 8:00 in the morning and continued until 2:00 pm.

Some 1,150 teachers cast their votes to elect representatives for seventy posts under seven categories.

Chief election officer Prof MA Bari, acting registrar of the university, announced the election result at 9:00 pm on the day.

In the RUTA election, White Panel secured six posts of the 15-member executive committee, including president and general secretary while Yellow Panel got joint-secretary and eight member posts of the committee.

The teachers who won from White Panel are president- Prof Amzad Hossain, vice-president - Dr Md Qulam Kibria, general secretary- Dr Mamunur Rashid, treasurer- Dr ABM Hamidul Haque and two executive members- Prof KBM Mahbubur Rahman and Prof Mamunur Rashid Khondoker.

On the other hand, those who won from Yellow Panel are joint-secretary-Prof Abdullah Al Maruf and eight members- Dr. Somlal Das, Prof. Md. Suzauddola, Prof. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dr. Hasan Hena, Prof Mamunur Rashid, Prof Farzana Sarker, Dr Md Elias Hossain and Prof Hasem Uddin.
