Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader urged on Thursday the party leaders and activists to project the development works done by the government to the people to help the party win the next parliament election, reports BSS.

"We will have to highlight the development activities and achievements of the government before the people. We will further strengthen our organisational activities in this regard," he told a press conference after attending a meeting of AL secretariat at the party president's Dhanmondi political office.

AL joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Abdur Rahman and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, information and research secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, forest and environment secretary Delwar Hossain and international affairs secretary Dr Shammi Ahmed were present, among others, on the occasion.

About the organisational activities at the grassroots, the AL general secretary said several teams have been formed to further strengthen organisational activities of the party at the district and upazila levels.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said his party leaders and activists have the courage to let the people know truth about the government's multifarious achievements.

The minister said the government's achievements have surpassed its meager shortcomings. The achievements of the government have been acclaimed at home and aboard, he added.

The AL general secretary expressed his optimism that his party under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will again win the next parliament election.

About the mayoral election to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Quader said the election will be held under party banner for the first time.

AL would like to nominate a person who bears the maximum acceptability of the people, he added.

He said before the decision of nomination board of the party in this regard, none will be considered as AL candidate.

The AL general secretary said his party has conducted several surveys and who stays ahead in the surveys will get AL ticket to run the DNCC mayoral race.

About the BNP's demand for army deployment in the polls, Quader said BNP wants deployment of army in every election as they have an ulterior motive to create controversy over the army.

When BNP stayed in power, they did not deploy army in any elections but how they demand army deploymentin every election now, he questioned.
