Satkhira AL leader accuses BCL leader of extortion

SATKHIRA, Mar 20 (UNB): Satkhira district unit general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League was accused of mugging and extortion by a local leader of ruling Awami League's municipal unit on Tuesday night.

Aminur Rahman, treasurer of AL's Satkhira municipality unit and also the vice-president of Sultanpur Boro Fisheries Traders Association, filed a complaint against Syed Sadiqur Rahman, general secretary of district unit of BCL, with Sadar thana.

According to the complaint, Sadiqur contacted Aminur around Tuesday noon. The Chhatra League leader told him to come to veterinary hospital and demanded Tk0.5 million in extortion.

Aminur claimed Sadiqur assaulted him and tried to kill him. The BCL leader and his cohorts snatched Tk 0.2 million from him and asked him to pay Tk 0.3 million the following day. They also warned Aminur against contacting police.
