SC clears way to continue graft case against Moudud

August 26, 2019 00:00:00

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday cleared way for continuing graft case proceedings against BNP leader Moudud Ahmed as it scrapped his plea to review a High Court order in this regard, reports BSS.

"Dismissed," said a six-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on September 16, 2007 filed the case with Gulshan Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 7.38 crore and concealing statement about wealth of Tk 4.40 crore.

The ACC on May 14, 2008 submitted charge sheet against Moudud in the case and the court on June 21, 2017 framed charges against him.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 is now examining witnesses in the case.

"The former law minister on March 4 pleaded to stay the proceedings of the court, which was eventually turned down. He went to High Court, which on April 8 out rightly rejected his plea. On May 14, Moudud filed a leave to appeal plea, only to be rejected by the Appellate Division. The BNP leader then filed a plea to review the May 14 order, and today the apex court scrapped that too," said ACC counsel Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan.
