SC stays suspended mayor's bail

The Supreme Court stayed on Monday a High Court (HC) order that granted interim bail to suspended Shahjadpur municipality mayor Halimul Haque Miru over Daily Samakal's correspondent Abdul Hakim Shimul murder, reports UNB.

A five-member SC bench led by Justice Muhammad Imman Ali came up with the order after hearing on a petition filed by Shimul's wife against HC order.

The SC also asked to file leave to appeal plea against the HC order within the next two weeks.

On November 04, the HC granted interim bail to the suspended Shahjadpur municipality mayor.

Earlier on February 02, 2017, journalist Shimul was shot dead during a clash between a Chhatra League faction and Shahjadpur Mayor Halimul Haque Miru's supporters.
