The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed a High Court order that had overturned an Election Commission's decision barring BNP leaders Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu from contesting the 11th parliamentary elections, reports UNB.

The seven-member full Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the EC.

Advocate Fida M Kamal and Advocate Ajmalul Hossain QC stood for Tuku and Dulu while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the Election Commission.

Another report adds: Detectives arrested Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu from his residence in the city's Gulshan area on the same day.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him around 11 am in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP.
