Two cases over killing of Naniarchar UZ chairman, four others

RANGAMATI, May 9 (UNB): Two separate cases have been filed in connection with the killing of Naniarchar upazila chairman Advocate Shaktiman Chakma and four other people in separate attacks on May 3 and 4.

Rupam Chakma, an assistant of Shaktiman Chakma, who also received injuries in the attack on May 3, filed a murder case naming 46 people with Naniarchar thana seven days after the incident on Wednesday, said Md Alamgir Kabir, superintendent of police (SP) in Rangmati.

Besides, Ochin Chakam, a relative of slain Tapan Jyoti Chakma, chief of Gonotrantik UPDF, filed another case accusing 72 people in connection with the attack on May 4 which left four indigenous people, including Tapan, dead.

Meanwhile, police in a special drive arrested Provat Kumar Chakma, president of Baghaichhari upazila Parbatya Chattagram Janasanghati Samity, and Sajek UP chairman Nelson Chakma, said Amin Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Baghaichhari thana.

On May 4, five people were killed and eight others injured in a gun attack on a motorcade of the followers of slain Naniarchar upazila parishad chairman Shaktiman Chakma at Betchhari in Naniarchar upazila.
