Violence, sabotage over next polls to be thwarted: Quader

September 20, 2018 00:00:00

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday violence and sabotage over the next national polls will not be tolerated, reports BSS.

Any anarchic situation will be thwarted, he said.

"BNP and its fundamentalist ally Jamaat are trying to create anarchy over the national polls like in 2014 election. They are hatching conspiracies to put the government into trouble. But pro-liberation force Awami League will win once again as people have reposed confidence on 'Boat', the party's election symbol," he said.

The AL leader made the remarks while speaking at a reception accorded to him by the Roads and Highways Department Sramik Karmachari Union at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the city.

Quader said a vested quarter has already begun conspiring to create unstable situation across the country over the upcoming parliamentary elections.

They are intriguing to topple the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

He said BNP is now shedding tears with complaints at the United Nations after failing to wage any movement capitalising on the quota reform movement and students' movement for safe road.

Describing the incumbent government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a people-friendly one, Quader said the people of the country are happy with overall development as well as the achievement of the government.

Meanwhile, an Awami League (AL) senior leader said no convicted corrupt person could be freed by waging a movement, reports BSS.

"BNP chief Khaleda Zia may be freed through the legal procedures. Otherwise, she can seek mercy to the honourable President. But the people of the country will not wage any movement to free her from jail," he said.

AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif came up with the remarks while speaking at a five-day training of Imams at Islamic Foundation in city's Agargaon.
