Voters facing harassment, alleges Hafizuddin

December 12, 2018 00:00:00

BNP leader Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that voters were being intimidated and harassed in his constituency Bhola-3, reports UNB.

"Voters are being intimidated while repression of BNP leaders and activists has been on the rise," he told reporters at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city after placing the complaint.

The written complaint was handed over to Election Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.

Hafizuddin claimed that he cannot go to his electoral area due to fear for life as 'terrorists' equipped with lethal weapons were 'attacking' innocent BNP leaders and activists.

Many senior leaders, including Jubo Dal district unit president Jamal Uddin and its general secretary Selim, are now receiving treatment at hospital after being injured in attacks, he alleged.

The BNP leader claimed that the law-and-order situation has turned worse ahead of the national election as the EC is playing a silent role instead of conducting drives to recover illegal firearms.

Meanwhile, BNP candidate for Noakhali-1 Mahbub Uddin Khokon lodged several complaints with the EC, alleging that police were making wholesale arrest of BNP leaders and activists in his constituency and elsewhere across the country.

After submitting the complaints, he told reporters that the EC has no control over the police and field administrations.
